Birthday Parties!
To support our healthy habits initiative, first grade classes will be taking a different approach to celebrating birthdays. We are asking that instead of sending in desserts, parents organize a special activity to celebrate their child’s birthday.
Birthdays will be celebrated each month (summer birthday celebrations will be in June). If your child shares a birthday month, please coordinate with the other parents to brainstorm an activity to do with the class. Games, crafts, dancing, and other activities are encouraged. The goal is to create memorable experiences without food. The activity does not need to be elaborate or expensive. Be creative and have fun! If you need help coming up with an idea and/or supplies, please see me. Below is a list of ideas to get you started:

- Tag
- Organized sports (baseball, kickball, etc.)
- Heads up seven up
- Making “goo” or homemade play dough
- Pin the tail on the donkey
- Water balloon toss
- Dance party with party supplies (balloons, noise makers, etc)
- Paper mache projects
- Planting in the school garden
- Decorating hats, frames, mugs, etc.
- Board games
- Bingo
- Tye-Dye
